Which is better IGTV or YouTube

IGTV vs. YouTube

Although IGTV has only been around for almost 2 years, it is being noticed by marketers and content creators alike. Some even go so far as to compare IGTV to YouTube, currently the largest video platform in the world, which hosts 300 minutes of video per minute. IGTV may have fewer users than YouTube, but that doesn't mean that as an entrepreneur, you won't find a way to use it effectively for a variety of different purposes. In this article we will look at the advantages and disadvantages of each platform to find out which platform you can and should use in order to reach more online users with your own content.

Differences between IGTV and YouTube:

1. Interface:

Although IGTV can be accessed through a web browser, this platform is primarily intended for video to be viewed on mobile devices. This also means that the thumbnails of the videos uploaded on your own IGTV channel are displayed differently than on a YouTube channel. The interfaces between these two social networks are completely different. If you are not yet familiar with the individual platforms, it is still not difficult to get used to them.

2. The upload process

The fact that IGTV specializes in vertically oriented videos limits the possibilities somewhat, as you either have to record a video in portrait format specifically for IGTV or edit an already rotated horizontally oriented video and change its aspect ratio to 9:16. You can upload videos to YouTube and IGTV directly from your computer or you can use the iPhone and Android-based apps to record videos with your smartphone and upload them to one of the two platforms. The maximum duration of an IGTV video cannot exceed 60 minutes, while the standard duration of all videos on YouTube is set to 15 minutes. However, if you have a verified YouTube account, you can also upload 128 GB videos, which can take up to 12 hours.

At the moment, the videos for IGTV must be saved in MP4 file format as the platform does not yet support any other video file format. YouTube offers a lot more freedom in this regard as it lets you upload videos saved in AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, or other popular file formats.

3. Discover new content

IGTV is more than a decade younger than YouTube. So you shouldn't be surprised if you have problems discovering new content. In addition, IGTV's search engine is still relatively new and far less powerful than YouTube's. That's why the videos you upload to YouTube are much easier to find via a simple Google search than the ones you shared on IGTV. Plus, YouTube offers a lot more new content every day than IGTV, and it is therefore clear that the new idea of ‚Äč‚ÄčInstagram still has a lot to do before it reaches the point where it becomes the world's largest video platform in terms of diversity of content for the people Can challenge users.

4. Monetization

Currently, views and likes cannot be monetized on IGTV, so most influencers rely on brand sponsorship. Things may change as the platform grows, but for now, IGTV is not offering content creators any compensation for the work they have done. YouTube allows content creators to monetize their videos for years through Google Adsense, and some of the most famous users like PewDiePie or Logan Paul have made hundreds of millions of dollars by posting new content on their YouTube channels. But keep in mind that you need at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of viewing time before you can activate and use this YouTube Monetize function.

5. Analytics and Insights

Knowing how many people have watched your entire video or how many likes and comments certain types of videos get, you can create better content in the future that will attract larger audiences on all social networks. When it comes to online marketing campaigns, metrics like engagement or view rates can be critical as they can indicate how many people are watching your videos and for how long. The analysis tools provided by YouTube are much more diverse than those from IGTV, with which you can only display the target group loyalty graphic and the number of views and comments on a video. So YouTube is obviously a much better option for anyone looking to do an in-depth analysis of their content's performance. But even the tools on IGTV are still powerful enough to indicate what type of content your audience likes the most.

Options for your own business:

Even if IGTV does not have as many users of its own as YouTube, over 500 million users still log into their Instagram accounts every day, so that your video content can still reach a large number of users. To be able to watch videos on Instagram TV, you only need your own Instagram account. Video content is also expected to comprise 78% of mobile traffic by 2021. By using IGTV, you can increase the number of hits on your social company profile and your website. As with Instagram, hashtags can also be used with IGTV. If you also publish your own IGTV videos in your own Instagram feed, other users can easily find the video content. IGTV content is displayed as a post in the feed with an IGTV logo in the upper right corner.

IGTV is a place where you can offer your audience longer video content. You can then easily pack shorter videos into your own Instagram story.

The following content is well suited for IGTV: Q&A, tutorials, tips and tricks, presentation of a new product, "How-To" videos for your own products / services.

Adding a new platform to your content marketing strategy may seem overwhelming at first, but you can easily reuse content you've created for other purposes instead of creating it from scratch.

Plus, you don't have to invest in expensive film equipment, especially if your company is on a tight budget. Since IGTV videos are supposed to be recorded vertically, they can be easily recorded on a smartphone.

YouTube works on both desktop and mobile, so your audience can consume content at home, at work, or on the go. With YouTube you can optimize your video content for better display. As a business, it's important to research your competition and do keyword research to find the best keywords for your business. You can also use hashtags to make your video content more searchable. Ideally, up to 15 relevant hashtags should be used in each video. YouTube is very flexible for businesses because you can translate content into different languages, schedule videos, split videos into playlists, and pay for YouTube ads.

YouTube Ads lets you promote your channel through skippable and non-skippable ads, display ads, overlay ads, bumper ads, and sponsored cards. These methods can increase brand awareness by improving the number and quality of subscribers and views for your own channel.

Why shouldn't you use YouTube and IGTV for the same purposes?

Don't assume that you can post the same type of video on YouTube and IGTV just because both networks are video sharing platforms. Content for IGTV should be dynamic and fun to grab the audience's attention. Posting tutorials or hours of game videos on IGTV doesn't attract as many viewers as it does on YouTube. Therefore, companies that want to use IGTV to promote their products and services need to choose the content carefully. Additionally, the videos, which are between two and five minutes long, are still by far the most popular on IGTV. So while you can technically upload a video that is an hour long, the chances are that videos that long won't get as many views.

IGTV is probably best used as a tool to improve how you interact with your followers on Instagram. However, if you want to become an established video content creator, setting up a YouTube channel is a better option. It remains to be seen how IGTV will develop in the near future. For now, however, this platform has no real chance of challenging YouTube's position as the world's leading video platform.
