Is Sarah Palin Trig's grandmother

Sarah Palin is grandma | Daughter Bristol gives birth to little Tripp

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has become a grandmother: Her 18-year-old daughter Bristol gave birth to a son, as People magazine reported on its website.

"We think that's wonderful," said Colleen Jones, Bristol Palin's great-aunt. Child and mother are doing well. “Everyone is thrilled.” Little Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston was born on Saturday and weighed 3300 grams.

Tripp. What an unusual name! But it may run in the family. Mother Sarah Palin gave her youngest daughter the name Trig.

Palin, the governor of the US state Alaska, announced in September in the middle of the presidential election that her then 17-year-old daughter was expecting a child.

The father is the 18-year-old Levi Johnston, who says he wants to marry his girlfriend soon. After the announcement of the pregnancy, Johnston attended the Republican Congress, where the Palin, who was strictly conservative on family issues, officially accepted her nomination as "Running Mate" of presidential candidate John McCain.

The pregnancy caused a stir in the US election campaign as the strictly religious Palin advocates abstinence before marriage. The 44-year-old has five children between the ages of seven months and 19 years.
