Apple and IBM form global partnership to transform enterprise mobility

CUPERTINO, California and ARMONK, New York - July 15, 2014 - Apple and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced an exclusive partnership that brings together the market-leading strengths of both companies to bring enterprise mobility through a whole new category of apps that bring IBM's big data and analytics capabilities to iPhone and iPad.
The partnership, which is significant for a milestone, aims to redefine the way work is done, to address important challenges in the mobility industry and to bring about changes in the company that are actually driven by the use of mobile technology - based on four main characteristics:
  • a new category of over 100 industry-specific business solutions including native apps that are developed from the ground up exclusively for iPhone and iPad;
  • unique cloud services from IBM, optimized for iOS, including device management, security, analytics and mobile integration;
  • new AppleCare service and support, tailored to the needs of a company; and
  • new preconfigured offerings from IBM for device activation, provisioning and management.

The new IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions are developed in an exclusive collaboration that benefits from the various strengths of both companies: IBM's big data and analytics capabilities are combined with the power and expertise of more than 100,000 industry and sector consultants and software developers with Apple's legendary experience in the end customer business, hardware and software integration and the developer platform. This combination will produce apps that can change the specific aspects of how companies and employees work with iPhone and iPad and will enable companies to achieve new levels of efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction - faster and easier than ever before.
As part of the exclusive IBM MobileFirst for iOS agreement, IBM will also sell iPhones and iPads with the industry-specific solutions to corporate customers worldwide.

The common goal of Apple and IBM for this partnership is to provide business people all over the world with the unique capabilities of iPads and iPhones with company information, data, analysis and work processes. In particular, the two companies are working together to deliver the essential elements of mobile solutions for companies:
Mobile solutions that transform business life: Companies will work together to create IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions - a new breed of "made-for-business" apps that address specific problems and opportunities in retail, healthcare, health, and more. in banking and insurance, travel and transport and the telecommunications industry and will be available from autumn this year and into 2015.
Mobile Platform: The IBM MobileFirst Platform for iOS will deliver the services required for an end-to-end, enterprise-wide system; from analytics, work process and cloud storage to managing a wide range of devices, security and integration. Improved mobile management includes a personal app catalog, data and transaction security services and a productivity suite for all IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions. In addition to the locally installed software solutions, all of these services will be available on Bluemix, IBM's development platform on the IBM Cloud marketplace.
Mobile Service and Support: AppleCare for Business will provide IT departments and end users with 24/7 support through Apple's award-winning customer service team, with on-site service provided by IBM.
Preconfigured service offerings: IBM introduces IBM MobileFirst Supply and Management for device provisioning, activation and management options for iPhone and iPad with leasing options.
