What are witch runes

Runes

Runes are the ancient characters of the Germanic tribes, which have been used for magical practices since their origins. They were used from the 2nd to the 14th century AD. Nowadays they are a popular means of divination in neo-pagan witch and wiccak cults and are used with preference for spells and witchcraft. They are also used to make amulets, talismans and sigils.

The origin of the runes Edit source]

According to legend, Odin is said to have received the secret knowledge of the runes after hanging on the world ash Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights, piercing it with an arrow and going blind in one eye. At the end of the ninth night he received the secret of the runes, which gave him great power - power over the fate and work of the world.

The use of the runes Edit source]

Runes were often used for spells that were carved into certain objects and thus acted on the wearer of the object. Even more often, however, one divined fortune with them, according to a certain procedure that Roman historians recorded, which, however, is confused and contradictory. At that time, the runes were also considered sacred, spiritual knowledge: you could learn something from each rune.

Nowadays, the rune oracle is particularly popular, in which the individual rune signs are assigned different meanings. In neo-pagan witchcraft, such rune oracles are popular means of divination because they are extremely easy to make. For this rune oracle, only the Elder Futhark is used, which consists of 24 rune sticks. Several runic alphabets existed in the history of runes, such as Younger, Anglo-Saxon, and Extended Futhark. The name Futhark is composed of the first 6 letters of the runic alphabet: F.ehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, A.nsuz, R.aido and Kenaz.

You should always be respectful when handling the runes. They are an extremely old divination agent and are not used as a party dude.

A set of runes of their own Edit source]

If a witch wants to make her own set of runes, she first chooses a tree from which she wants to use the wood. Trees that are particularly suitable for rune division are beech, willow and ash. Either you wait until you find a suitable branch in nature, or you ask the tree to cut off a living branch. In any case, you should ask the tree beforehand: if it refuses, you submit. If you then cut off a branch, you always leave a gift for the tree that "gave you of its own flesh". It is also often the custom to coat the interface with spit and visualize a green light so that the tree can heal more quickly.

After the wood has dried through, it is cut into small slices and the rune signs are scratched. Then you consecrate each piece of the rune that you have scratched on it. Finally, the piece of wood is processed with sandpaper and coated with a wood oil or wax. You can also dye your runes with black tea or elderberry juice. Of course you can also paint on your rune signs. If you don't want to use wood, you can use clay, stone, shells or cardboard instead. It is also possible to cut off 24 branches and scratch / paint a rune on each one (instead of cutting slices from a thick branch).

The runes are then consecrated as a means of divination and placed in a beautiful pouch.
