Unity is a video game development platform that has grown from a preferred platform for many indie game developers to a major alternative for some companies like Obsidian and InXile in just five years. Above all, the low costs and user-friendliness speak for this platform.

Unity is so flexible that you can easily create games from a wide variety of genres with it. Both 2D and 3D engines are supported. You also benefit from technologies like Direct3D and OpenGL - if you want, you make the decision yourself. Ultimately, it depends on what you want to develop, because Unity only provides the necessary tools without prescribing a direction.

The latest Unity version is even compatible with DirectX 11, so you can create games with stunning graphics. Thanks to the included plugins, these games can be started directly in the browser.

The free version of Unity offered here has the basic tools: NVIDIA PhysX's physics engine, 3D audio, support for multiplayer modes, and much more.

A whole series of well-known games have now been implemented with Unity, including Triple Town, Bad Piggies, Slender: The Arrival, Dead Trigger, Temple Run, Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms and Wasteland 2.

Unity is one of the most flexible video game development platforms available today. It is not without reason that a lot of new Unity projects appear at such regular intervals, both on Windows and Mac as well as for Android and iOS.
