Does Pune have an airport

Local time: | Time zone: 5.50 hours

The Indian city of Pune lies on the edge of the so-called Dekka Plain in western India. The city is also known by its former name of Punavadi. Pune is located in the state of Maharashta and is the largest city in the region with around 4 million inhabitants. Due to its important reputation as a university city, Pune is also known as "Oxford of the East".

The most interesting part of the city is the old town "Pesha". The cityscape of the old town is characterized by “wadas” - wooden town houses, which are mostly very well preserved. At the edge of the old town is the "Shaniwawarda Palace", the historical fortress of the city. The "Mahathma Pule Market" forms the center of the old town. It is built in the Victorian style. Here you will also find the most important shopping opportunities in Pune.

To the west of the city is the Panchalesvara cave temple. It dates from the 8th century and was carved out of the rock. A great sight. The best restaurants in town can be found in the streets south of the train station. In addition, Pune has many cultural institutions to offer.

There is a wide bus network in Pune's public transport network that connects the city center with the surrounding districts. There are also plans to build a subway. Pune also has its own airport, outside the city.

Pune - in the west of India - is one of the most diverse cities in the west of the country.

Pune International / Lohegaon Airport

In the west of India is the small town of Pune with its Pune International Airport, which is less than ten kilometers from the city center.
The airport has a special relationship with Germany, as one of its two international destinations is Frankfurt am Main and, along with Dubai, is an important link in the world.
Otherwise, numerous smaller cities are linked to the major economic centers of the emerging subcontinent via the airport, including Mumbai and Delhi. The airport itself has two runways and a general terminal. From here you can easily reach Pune by taxi.
Currently, the civil airlines and the Indian Air Force still share the airport grounds. Because of the increasing demand for national and international flights, this situation can no longer be maintained; there is simply too little capacity to handle civil and military aviation. At the same time, there are big plans: in addition to the expansion of one runway, there are still numerous sub-projects to be built on the huge site of more than 2500 hectares.
