"Star Wars 9": Incest again after Luke and Leia?

Warning, the following opinion text contains SPOILERS on "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" - and possibly even some HUMOR.

When “The Empire Strikes Back” was released in 1980, the kiss between Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was naturally emotionally charged - because maybe the two would get together later.

In any case, the odds didn't seem to be bad! After all, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas had no clue at the time where the relationship between the two would lead later (he only decided that when he wanted to surprise with another relatives revelation after the “I am your father” revelation arrived safely).

The fact that Luke and Leia ultimately became brother and sister makes the romantic moment between them in retrospect appear in a rather incestuous light. But in "Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker" we are now served another scene of potential love AND family ties! Yes, it's about Rey and Kylo.

After Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) fought to the blood in "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi", although they were visibly keen on each other in the latter film, In “The Rise of Skywalker” they not only bury the hatchet, they even go one step further. In addition to blood, saliva now also flows!

They kiss. But if you briefly trace the family trees back a few generations, you will quickly realize: Rey and Kylo are related!

The origin not only of all evil, but also of the most unromantic romantic scene in "Star Wars 9" is - how could it be otherwise - the returning Emperor himself. Because in both families or both parts of the family, he had his fingers (and other parts of his body) in the game.

Unfortunately, both are related to the Emperor!

Kylo Ren's origin: Kylo was born Ben Solo, son of Han (Harrison Ford) and Leia, whose father is known to be none other than Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader. George Lucas' now indicates in "Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith" that Anakin is in turn the son of the Emperor - in the new Darth Vader comics the suggestion goes even further, there is hardly any doubt that that Palpatine brought about the immaculate conception of Anakin by means of power. Kylo Ren / Ben Solo can therefore be called the great-grandson of the Emperor!

Rey's origin: If Kylo's relationship with the Emperor remains at least a bit questionable, after “Star Wars 9” it is clear that Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter (which is also associated with the uncomfortable idea that the Emperor had sexual intercourse). But if Rey is the Emperor's granddaughter and Kylo is his great-grandson, then that also means:

Kylo kissed his 2nd degree aunt Rey!

In order to determine this relationship, several colleagues with knowledge of genealogy were interviewed and a diagram of family relationships was analyzed. But one question remained:

If Kylo kisses his 2nd degree aunt, are we dealing with another “Star Wars” case of acute incest danger after Luke and Leia? Our legal expert Björn Becher, who was quickly consulted, gave the all-clear:

Sex would not have been a problem for Rey and Kylo even under the strict German penal code. Because that only criminalizes cohabitation between relatives in a straight line - and this straight line no longer exists with nephew and aunt, especially not with a second degree aunt.

"Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker" has been in cinemas since December 18, 2019.
