National Solitaire Day 2020: Microsoft Solitaire celebrates its 30th birthday

It's one of the most popular digital card games for young and old: Microsoft Solitaire is celebrating its 30th anniversary today on National Solitaire Day 2020! High time to say “thank you” to all of the loyal players of the last thirty years and to indulge in memories for a moment.

The game known today under the name Microsoft Solitaire Collection enjoys worldwide fame. A proud 35 million players play a round of cards every month - they come from more than 200 countries and regions and speak 65 languages. Even after 30 years the fans never get tired: Microsoft Solitaire is still one of the most played games worldwide with more than 100 million players every day.

In the nineties, the popular card game was called Windows Solitaire on Windows 3.0. What was new at the time was the ability to drag and drop objects across the computer screen with the mouse - the game brought people closer to this function.

Microsoft Solitaire: Also a hit on the go!

In 2020, the 31st year of the game, Microsoft Solitaire will be played not only on computers but also on laptops, tablets and smartphones. And that from an extremely diverse audience - even in the most remote places in the world. Especially the familiarity and the easy availability made Solitaire an absolute cult game. With more than half a billion players in the past decade alone, the game earned its inclusion in the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2019.

If you don't want to play a new version now and prefer to indulge in memories, you can also try out good old Windows 3.0 yourself, for example in this emulator. Don't be frightened when the boot beep sounds!
