If the previous model only managed a distance from Karlsruhe to Koblenz, the quiet Nissan Leaf 2018 now hisses from Karlsruhe to Düsseldorf without a pit stop. At 4.49 meters, the new Nissan Leaf is slightly longer than its predecessor. But since the wheelbase has not changed, there is probably no more space for the passengers. Compared to the previous model, the interior is less playful and should appeal to a wider audience. Particular attention was paid to improved noise insulation in the new edition, which makes the new Leaf 2 one of the quietest electric cars on the market. Instead of an unusual two-part display, the Nissan Leaf 2018 has an analog speedometer and a main screen. The center console houses a modern infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The possibility of warming up the Nissan Leaf via the app before getting in is extremely pleasant.

Most Asian e-cars have a type 1 charging plug - which unfortunately does not correspond to the European standard (type 2 charging plug). Until now, a corresponding adapter cable was necessary for charging. A type 2 plug has now been installed in the new Nissan Leaf so that it can be supplied with power at public AC charging stations without an adapter. Due to the high charging capacity of the battery in the Nissan Leaf 2018, it takes about 17 hours to fully charge it from a normal socket.

Pros & cons of the Nissan Leaf 2018

The Nissan Leaf 2018 has a clear advantage on its side: the e-pedal, which brings optimized driving for after-work commuters. But the e-pedal is also a useful driving setting in many other driving situations, which is often switched on immediately when driving and can fortunately be activated permanently in the menu. In addition, the Nissan Leaf 2 shines with a very good performance and a pleasant driving experience, which is rounded off by the sophisticated safety systems that are already included in the basic equipment. The current base range should have safely exceeded the 400-kilometer mark. In the more practical WLTP test cycle, it is then another 285 km. Thus, the Leaf 2 moves with the direct competitor Renault ZOE Z.E. 40 roughly the same. It is also good that another, larger battery version with a range of 500 kilometers (NEDC) is to follow. Only the interior could be a bit more spacious. However, for a compact electric vehicle like the Nissan Leaf 2018, that's a high-level complaint.
