Has Joan Kennedy died
The Kennedys' blows of fate
1858: Patrick Kennedy dies on November 22nd, less than ten years after immigrating to the USA. The ancestor of the clan succumbs to consumption, which is not unusual at this time. The date is unusual: 105 years later to the day, his great-grandson - John F. Kennedy, the then President of the United States - will be shot in Dallas.
1873: When Josie Hannon, the mother of Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, is eight years old, her sister drowns through her fault. She then withdrew more and more and became increasingly religious. This also has serious consequences for her daughter Rose Kennedy, who brings her up in a strictly religious manner.
Crash of the bearer of hope
1941: Joseph P. Kennedy orders a brain operation (lobotomy) on his daughter Rosemary, who suffers from a mild mental deficiency, without his wife's knowledge. The operation, which cuts nerve tracts in the brain, means that Rose has to spend the rest of her life in various care facilities.
1944: At the age of 29, Joseph Jr., the eldest son of Rose and Joseph P. Kennedy, dies in a plane crash. He had volunteered for a dangerous secret mission during World War II. His father in particular had high hopes for his son's career and saw him early on as the first Catholic and Irish-born President of the United States.
1948: Kathleen Kennedy, the sister of John F. Kennedy, also dies in a plane crash. Despite all warnings, she and her fiancé Peter Fitzwilliam had flown from England to France in bad weather in a small plane. With them the pilot and the copilot died.
Diseases and assassinations
1961: Joseph P. Kennedy, who did everything he could to get his son into the White House, suffers a stroke in the first year of the presidency. From then on he can no longer speak and no longer participate in political life.
1963: Patrick, the fourth child of John F. and Jackie Kennedy, is born six weeks premature. He dies two days after giving birth.
1963: John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas on November 22nd. He was 46 years old when he was shot dead in an open car. The President had previously rejected the security measures proposed by the Secret Service.
1964: One year after his brother was murdered, Edward Kennedy is seriously injured in a plane crash. He suffers severe back and lung injuries. Joseph and Rose Kennedy's youngest son had flown to a political event despite a storm. An employee and the pilot die in the crash.
1968: Robert F. Kennedy, promising presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, is assassinated in Los Angeles at the age of 43. A day later he dies of his injuries. The shooter is arrested at the scene of the crime: the Palestinian immigrant Sirhan Bishara Sirhan.
1969: When Edward falls off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island in his car, his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, is killed. Edward himself escapes from the scene of the accident and only notifies the police several hours after the accident.
1973: Robert Kennedy's son Joseph, who later becomes Congressman, has an accident on Nantucket Island. His companion Pamela Kelly is paraplegic after the accident. In the same year Ted Jr., the son of Edward and Joan Kennedy, had a leg amputated because of cancer.
1984: Robert Kennedy's son David dies of a drug overdose in a Florida hotel.
1991: William, a nephew of John F. Kennedy, is charged with rape. Although he is later acquitted, not everyone believes in his innocence.
1994: Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis dies of cancer at the age of 64.
1997: Michael LeMoyne Kennedy, son of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, died in a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado. He was previously accused of having an affair with a 14-year-old who was taking care of his children.
1999: John F. Kennedy Jr. dies in a plane crash. His wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and her sister Lauren Besette also die in the accident. John John, as he was called, had just got his license and was also in poor health.
