Volkswagen produces significantly fewer vehicles - in 2020 the Wolfsburg-based company produced almost 8.9 million automobiles, more than ever in the period under review since 2000. In addition to the core brand Volkswagen Passenger Cars, the passenger car brands Audi, Porsche, Skoda, Seat and Bentley also belong to the VW Group. Furthermore, the commercial vehicle brands VW Nutzfahrzeuge, MAN and Scania belong to the brand portfolio of VW.

Decline in production due to Corona and missing chips

The restrictions caused by the corona pandemic led to interruptions in international supply chains. Volkswagen was forced to temporarily stop production in 2020, and there were also delivery problems for computer chips. As a result, both of these led to a decrease in production of 17.8 percent compared to 2019.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars is the engine of sales

The core brand of the Wolfsburg-based automobile manufacturer contributed the largest share of total group sales with around 71 billion euros in 2020. Audi followed in second place - with sales of 50 billion euros.
