Why did Lord Vishnu kill Shukracharya's mother

Did Vishnu perform incarnations because of Bhrigu's curse?

This story comes in Padma Purana Brahma Khanda chapter 57 above . It was one of the consequences of the struggle between gods and demons.

Indra and the gods wanted to kill the demons in battle. Demons realized that they could not defeat the demons in battle and went to Bhrigus' hermitage. Her Guru Shukracharya was absent to save her because of a penance to Lord Shiva. So they surrendered to Shukracharya's mother instead. She gave them protection. It paralyzed Indra so that he could not move any further. When they looked at this, the gods fled from there. But Vishnu did not. He said

  1. When the host of the gods had fled, Visnu said to Indra: "Come into me, God bless you, oh dear gods, I will protect you."

  2. Indra, so addressed, entered Visnu. When the angry goddess saw him protected by Visnu, she said (these) words:

  3. "O Indra, I will now burn you by force together with Visnu, when all beings are watching; see the power of my penance!"

  4. The two gods Indra and Visnu were overwhelmed by her. Visnu said to Indra: "How should I become free with you?"

  5. Indra said, "Kill her as long as she does not burn us, oh Lord. I am especially subject to her. Kill her. Do not hesitate."

  6. Then Visnu watched her and decided to do the evil deed of killing (?) A woman, and the lord quickly approached the desperate Indra.

243-244. Then Visnu, who was beaten with fear and moving quickly and knew that the goddess wanted to do the cruel deed, angry, took his disk and cut off her head in fear. When I saw this terrible murder of Lord Bhrgu, I got angry.

245-246. Then Vishnu was cursed by Bhrigu for murdering his wife. Bhrgu said: Knowing the Dharma, since you killed a woman who should not have been killed, you will be born among people seven times .

After cursing Vishnu, Bhrigu brought her wife's life back using his power of penance.

  1. Then, because of that curse, he will be born repeatedly among people for the good of the world when Dharma disappears from it. After speaking to Visnu, he himself brought the head and her body and held (the head and the body) in his hand and said:

  2. "Oh goddess, I will revive you who were killed by Visnu. When I know or have practiced all of the holy law and if I tell the truth, I will come to life again."

  3. After spraying them with cold water, he said, "Come back to life, come back to life."

  4. When he (so) spoke, the goddess came to life again.

This curse from Bhrigu is one of the reasons why Lord Vishnu accepted incarnations. There will be many reasons why he would incarnate as a human on earth. When we find other Puranas there will be other curses from others and boons bestowed on the devotees by the Lord. For example, there are many curses in various associated with Rama-Avatar. Many deeds and curses are answered by a single incarnation. Many deeds are also associated with the Krishna avatar. The curse is only one reason for the Lord to incarnate. We can say it's his leela.
