What are some examples of compostable products

ecovio® - Bio-based and compostable plastic

DR. LOOS, WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT ECOVIO?
Loos: The special thing about this material is the mixture of the biodegradable ecoflex from BASF and the polylactic acid made from renewable raw materials, which results in a completely compostable plastic that is partly made from renewable raw materials. It is impressive that products made from ecovio now have the same properties as conventional, non-biodegradable standard plastics and can be processed just as easily.

DR. LEHENMEIER, WHICH EVERYDAY APPLICATIONS DOES ECOVIO BRING IMPROVEMENTS?
Lehenmeier: Let's take the example of coffee capsules. Coffee capsules produce a lot of residual waste, but coffee powder is actually a valuable fertilizer and compostable. If we use ecovio for the capsule material, the capsules can be disposed of with the organic waste. Here, however, it is important that the material meets the high barrier requirements for coffee packaging, such as moisture, oxygen and aroma. At the moment this can only be achieved with a special compostable outer packaging of the capsules, but research is already being carried out on appropriate solutions for the coffee capsule of the future. The capsule also has to withstand brewing coffee in high-pressure coffee machines and still be completely compostable. We have achieved this and are thus making a contribution with our research to reduce unnecessary waste.
