What video game plot got you thinking
The 40 best video games of all time
We wanted to introduce you to the best games ever. But which should we include and which should we omit from this list? In the end, we have compiled 40 titles that boast fun, an original story or both and have influenced the game genre to a certain extent.
So here is our - of course subjective - selection, sorted by date of publication:
1. Tetris (06/06/1984)
Tetris is also known as the mother of all video games. Thanks to the timeless gameplay, the title will never really go out of style. The point is to line up blocks of different shapes so that they form a complete line, which then disappears. Nowadays the game can be played online in numerous variations
2. Super Mario Bros. (11/13/1985)
Probably the most popular jump and run series has created an offshoot with Super Mario Bros. that is still fun for many gamers to this day. He also paved the way not only for other Super Mario titles, but also for the genre itself. Originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, old-school fans can still enjoy the title on the Nintendo Classic Mini today.
You can buy the Nintendo Classic Mini from us in the Euronics shop.
3. Metroid (08/06/1986)
As Samus Aran you will find yourself in a world full of aliens. In this 2D action role-playing game, you move around in a relatively open game world, which you can use to gain access to new objects and skills. This progression system was used by many other games after Metroid and ensures that skills and items offer real added value for the player.
4th Street Fighter (08/30/1987)
Street Fighter is a milestone in the Beat’em Up genre. There two fighters compete against each other in order to reduce their energy bars as effectively as possible until a knockout. goes. With Street Fighter, dull button mashing, i.e. pressing as many buttons as possible, can lead to success. Experienced fighters can counter this tactic with ease.
5. The Secret of Monkey Island (October 15, 1990)
The Secret of Monkey Island is another classic that friends of point-and-click adventure games must have played. As Guybrush Threepwood, you reveal the secrets of the Monkey Island. You will come across all sorts of funny characters and a large portion of humor. The graphics are very old-fashioned, but with the special edition you can experience the classic in a new guise.
The special edition is available to buy on Steam.

7. Doom (12/10/1993)
Doom co-founded the first person shooter and relies on tough action. The game doesn't take any prisoners. As a marine you fight against the demons from hell to make the earth a safe place. In 1995 it was the most brutal game the world had ever seen, but by today's standards that is no longer the case.
The original Doom is available on Steam as Ultimate Doom with a few extra levels.
8. Resident Evil (03/22/1996)
Survival horror at its finest awaits you at Resident Evil. Because of a mysterious murder in Raccoon City, a special unit was dispatched, which was driven into a villa by unidentified creatures.
