Biography of Pink / P! Nk

The American singer Pink (real name Alecia Beth Moore) was born on September 8th, 1979 in Doylestown (Pennsylvania, USA). Often her name is also spelled P! Nk. Their ancestors come from Ireland, Germany and Lithuania. Pink also tried drugs as a teenager, but soon refrained from it.

There are contradicting information about the origin of her artist name. P! Nk herself said that she already had this nickname at a young age, because her face was always reddened by shame. Another, not entirely adult, statement claims that a colored classmate who had never seen a white woman naked said "It's pink" when he looked under her skirt.

She learned to sing in her youth when she sang in a gospel choir. Musically, pink is difficult to classify, it lies somewhere between pop, rock, punk and R&B. The debut album "Can't Take Me Home" went double platinum in the United States.

In the German-speaking countries she achieved her breakthrough with the title "Lady Marmelade" from the soundtrack to the film "Moulin Rouge". Pink made it to the top of the charts in over ten countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Sweden. After her 2003 album she took a little break.

In 2006 the fourth Pink album "I'm Not Dead" was released, which climbed to first place in the German album charts. However, the next hit single didn't hit the market until 2008. P! Nk was able to climb the throne of the charts worldwide with "So What".

"Funhouse" could not quite achieve the success of the previous album. Pink did not get beyond second place in Germany and the United States, and only third in Austria. P! Nk made it to the top of the charts in Great Britain and Switzerland.

During the "Funhouse Summer Carnival" tour in Germany in 2010, Pink had to survive a moment of shock. During her performance in Nuremberg on July 15th, 2010, she was injured during a show and fell into the gap between the stage and the audience. The concert was then canceled.

In 2012 the sixth studio album "The Truth About Love" was released, which was one of the ten best-selling albums of the year worldwide. In 2015 the singer was appointed UNICEF ambassador.
