In Toronto, Reeves played at the City Theater. There he gained his first stage experience, mostly in Shakespeare plays. Keanu had his first television and cinema appearances in 1979. First in various low-budget productions, but soon (after school and various small attempts at start-up) blockbusters were to follow. Keanu Reeves then became world-famous in 1994 on the side of film partner Sandra Bullock in the film "Speed". The role of the daring policeman gave him the breakthrough. From then on, he received fees in the millions, but continued to be a thorn in the side of many critics, who describe his acting as wooden and expressionless. Hollywood, however, offered Reeves, completely unimpressed by criticism, one film offer after another. And so Reeves could even afford to turn down the offer for "Speed 2" in 1997 and go on tour with his band instead. The role of computer hacker Neo in the "Matrix" trilogy then catapulted Reeves into the ranks of the highest-paid Hollywood stars in 1999. Since then, negative criticism has become more sparse. The "Matrix" series was followed by several films such as "Das Haus am See" (2006) and "Man of Tai Chi" (2013), which he also directed.
