Why is Trump President

United States Investigations against Trump corporation expanded

The New York attorney general is now investigating possible criminal offenses against the group of companies of former US President Donald Trump. As a spokesman for the prosecution announced, the activities of the "Trump Organization" are now being investigated not only from a civil law perspective, but also from a criminal law point of view.

The New York authorities are now working with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance. This has been criminally prosecuting the Trump Organization for a long time - a holding company made up of hundreds of individual companies from hotels to golf courses.

Did Trump pay hush money to lovers?

Vance's investigation initially focused on alleged hush money payments to two women who said they had affairs with Trump years ago. Meanwhile, Vance is also investigating suspected tax evasion and banking and insurance fraud. Since March, he has also had the long withheld tax returns from the former US president.

Trump had tried by all legal means to prevent the financial documents from being released and had twice gone to the Supreme Court. He describes himself as the victim of a politically motivated "witch hunt" by the Democrats of his successor Joe Biden.

The trigger was a testimony from Trump's ex-lawyer Cohen

The investigation began after Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen testified before the US Congress in 2019 that Trump was inflating the value of his property to secure cheap loans, but lowering the value in order to pay less tax.
