What is the latest version of Microsoft Office?

Office 2019 is the latest version of MicrosoftOffice for Windows PCs and Macs. When you subscribe to Office 365, you'll always get updates for the latest version of Office. If you purchase a traditional single system license, you must purchase each new version to get it.

The latest version is Office 2019

The latest version of Microsoft Office is Office 2019, which is available for both Windows PCs and Macs. Microsoft released Office 2019 for Windows and Mac on September 24, 2018.

The Windows version only runs on Windows 10. If you're still using Windows 7, Office 2016 is the latest version to use. The Mac version supports macOS 10.12 Sierra, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, and macOS 10.14 Mojave.

There are also Office applications for iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. These are always up to date with the latest software.

The versions of Office 2019 are provided with the Office 365 subscription service from Microsoft, despite the name, differs a little from the traditional versions of Office 2019. The Office applications available through the Office 365 subscription service get new functions before the standalone- Standard copies of Office 2019 is the case. So if you have Office 365, Office 2019 isn't a big deal.

If you're not using Office 365, leaving Office 2016 to Office 2019 isn't a significant upgrade. Office 2019 includes new features such as improved coloring in all apps (with pen, finger or mouse), a PowerPoint morph transition effect that you can use between slides, a “focused inbox” for Outlook that shows your most important emails from separates less important emails and a few more functions.

How to check if you have the latest version

To check which version of Microsoft Office you are using on Windows, open an Office application such as Word or Excel and click the File menu in the upper left corner of the window.

From the sidebar menu, click Account. Look under Product Information on the right side of your screen and see which version of Office you are using.

If you don't see an Account option, click Help instead.

In the following screenshot we are using Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus. This is a version of Office 365.

You can also scroll down and hit the "About" button on the account page, e.g. B. "About" in Microsoft Word for more information.

In addition to the "About" button, you can also see the version and publication channels of your Office apps. In the image below we are using version 1809 that was released in September 2018 and we are in the monthly update channel. The semi-annual channel is slower and useful for organizations that want less frequent updates.

For example, this window shows that we are using the 32-bit version of Microsoft Word for Office 365.

On a Mac, click the About option on an application menu for this information.

How to update to the latest version

How you update depends on how you purchased Microsoft Office. When you subscribe to the Office 365 subscription service, the latest version of Microsoft Office is always available.

You can check for updates by clicking File> Account> Update Options> Update Now in an Office application. Unless you have disabled updates that are not recommended, however, Office always updates itself in the background.

Office 365 has various update channels. Standard consumer versions of Office 365 are on the Monthly update channel, which receives new features and other updates every month. However, if you installed a version of Office through your company's Office 365 ProPlus subscription, you may find yourself in the Semi-Annual channel instead. This channel is only updated with new features every six months. You will continue to receive security updates immediately. Only new Microsoft Office features will be moved.

You can switch to the monthly channel if you're on the semi-annual channel and would like to receive feature updates more frequently. To do this, download and run the Microsoft Office Channel Switcher Fix. The update channel of your Office product will change and the new version will be downloaded automatically.

If you don't have Office 2019, you can get it You can either subscribe to Microsoft's Office 365 subscription service or purchase a single PC or Mac license for Office 2019 and install it on your system.

If you choose to purchase Office 2019 instead of subscribing to Office 365, you won't be automatically upgraded to the next major version of Office. However, when you subscribe to Office 365, you will automatically be kept up to date with the latest Office software.

Office 365 is especially good business if you want to install Office on more than one PC. Office 365 Personal costs $ 70 per year and lets you install Office on a PC or Mac. However, Office 365 Home costs $ 100 per year and allows Office to be installed on up to five PCs or Macs - or any combination of the two. A single standalone copy of Office 2019 for Windows or Mac costs $ 150 for one device only.

If you paid for Office 2016 instead of subscribing to Office 365, we recommend that you stick with it and don't pay for Office 2019.
