In February 2010 Dirk Fischer first heard about Nargis, the tropical storm that devastated the Irrawaddy Delta in Myanmar in 2008. The country quickly fascinated him and so he spontaneously decided in March 2010 to visit various projects on site with his partner Ilka Sander. In just 12 days, the two traveled the country and decided to support the primary school in the village of Ah Lay Su in Kayin Chaung Village, Twante Township as their first project. An English teacher should start teaching the children the foreign language from now on.

The Union We go to school was founded on June 24, 2010. Since then, partners and resources have been sought with great commitment to help the people and especially the children on site. In spring 2020, Dirk Fischer was in Myanmar for the 14th time in a row to review existing projects and launch new ones. The development is remarkable: The association is now busy We go to school 15 teachers in four projects in Myanmar, a country that was influenced by the dictatorship of the military for 60 years.

In recent years, the teachers themselves have also been trained more intensively. “We have noticed a significant increase in language quality, both among the teachers and their students on site,” says Dirk Fischer.
