Beyond money, what are you working towards

What does success mean to you? How important is money to you?

Questions about work ethic and motivation

This is meant

Do not be under any illusions - the following is what your interlocutor would like to find out with his question: Are you an undemanding low-key who tears down his job and collects his salary; Or: Are you success-oriented and equipped with healthy ambition. Or else: Are you a careerist who goes over dead bodies? In other words: is the drive for your commitment in professional life in the matter, i.e. your work, or in the money? And consequently: Is your concept of success based more on the results of your work or on material incentives?

This is how you should answer

In order not to be shipwrecked here, you are well advised to ask yourself this question during your preparation. Because success has very different meanings: financial independence; to achieve what you set out to do; get a grip on his work environment; to constantly work on expanding your own knowledge and skills; make a meaningful contribution to the team; to be given more responsibility; climb the corporate ladder. The same applies to the topic of money: it gives security, sweetens life, increases the freedom of design. But: It's not everything and therefore also a sensitive point in the interview. So be aware in every respect that your answer will always be assessed in relation to the advertised position: If you are not applying for a typical career position, you should try not to give the impression that you are aiming too high. Basically you are always right with a mixture of "constantly improving in your own area" and "making a meaningful contribution to the team". In this context (but only in this one!) You can add that you appreciate money as recognition for a job well done and that you see a connection with job satisfaction: But in any case, add that praise and recognition are also important criteria for success for you are.

You are exactly right if you make it clear that you do not want to earn more at any cost, but rather that enjoyment at work and a sense of achievement are important to you.
