What are the songs with incredible music

For a long time, German music was frowned upon. English-language music dominated the charts in the 1990s and into the early 00s. Songs with German lyrics were considered uncool and rarely played on the radio. The only genre that continued to rely on German-language texts was the hit. And it wasn't for the younger generation - at least that was the majority of the opinions.

Exceptions were Die Ärzte (“Men Are Pigs”) and Die Toten Hosen (“Ten Little Jägermeisters”), who continued to be at the top of the charts with their singles and albums. At that time, solo artist Peter Maffay was also one of the few who could always stay at the top of the charts with his German-language music. If you want to experience the rock musician live, get on September 25, 2021 the chance to do so in the Lanxess Arena.

German music makes a comeback

But gradually the trend reversal followed - the opinion on German music changed. Herbert Grönemeyer celebrated a huge comeback in 2002 with his album "Mensch" - to this day the album is the best-selling in Germany with 3.1 million copies. Bands like Silbermond, Wir sind Helden, Rosenstolz, Söhne Mannheims or Sportfreunde Stiller were suddenly at the top of the charts. The guys from Tokio Hotel were one of the few German-speaking groups that were even able to celebrate great success internationally in Europe as well as in North and South America. German music was suddenly all the rage again.

Suddenly successful

And the hit also experienced a real renaissance from the mid-2000s thanks to Helene Fischer. Sold out tours, number one hits and albums. Gone are the days when hits were just greasy pussies with texts without a deeper meaning. It was trendy to hear the music of Helene Fischer, Andrea Berg, Vanessa Mai, Beatrice Egli, Andreas Gabalier and Co. - and that in every age group.

From English to German

So it's no wonder that more and more artists are deciding to sing in German. So does Sarah Connor. Born in Delmenhorst, she began her career with English-language hits ("From Sarah with Love", "Just one last Dance"), with which she was extremely successful. After a creative break and participation in the VOX program “Sing my Song - The Exchange Concert”, the now 40-year-old switched to German-language songs - a right decision, as it turned out. With her two albums "Mutterssprache" (2015) and "Herz Kraft Werke" (2019), Sarah Connor immediately landed at the top of the German album charts. In November last year she already played her “Herz Kraft Werke” tour in front of a sold out arena in the cathedral city. And because the singer can't get enough of the Lanxess Arena, she returns on March 2, 2021 for a concert (tickets are available here).

Two men - two success stories

Another example of success is Pietro Lombardi. In 2011 the singer won the eighth season of the talent show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" - in which he performed almost exclusively English songs. After two albums in English, the native of Karlsruhe decided to sing in German from 2015. A decision that earned him two number one hits (“Senorita”, “Phenomenal”). There is now an alternative date for the concert planned and sold out in August: Am June 6, 2021 Pietro Lombardi will create a good atmosphere in the arena.

Singer Alexander Marcus is someone who has also been creating a good mood with his music for many years. The “King of Electrolore” has been extremely popular with a large fan base since the mid-00s with hits like “Papaya”, “Hawaii Toast Song” or “Electrician”. His music can be described as a mix of electronic club beats paired with absurd, hit-like lyrics. At the June 18, 2021 Alexander Marcus comes to the Henkelmännchen and wants to put the arena into ecstasy. If you want to be there - tickets can be bought here.
