Seaside shipbuilding complex “Zvezda” has started construction of a head nuclear-powered icebreaker of the project 10510 “Leader”. According to the message of “Rosatomflot”, July 6, 2020 held its first cutting for the prospective vessel named “Russia”. Under the current plan, is built the ship will be handed over to the customer in 2027.
The contract for the construction of the lead icebreaker of the project Leader was signed in April of this year. “Leader” is developed specifically for pilotage on the Northern sea route, the shortest sea route from Europe to Asia. In particular, the new ice-breaking ships must be able to provide year-round harness carriers and tankers.
According to the draft, full load displacement “Leader” will amount to 71.4 thousand tons with a length of 209 meters, width is 47.7 meters and a height of 20.3 meters. The ship will receive two nuclear reactor RITM-400 with a capacity of 120 MW on the shafts, and heat capacity of 315 MW each. Propulsion of the vessel will serve four propellers.
The icebreaker will be able to reach the speed of 24 knots (44 km / h) in clean water and 12 knots in ice up to 2 meters thick. A ship designed for 40 years of service. His crew will consist of 127 people. The autonomy of the icebreaker on the stocks of provisions will be 8 months.
The project Leader while it is planned to build three nuclear-powered icebreaker, the last of which will be transferred to the customer until the end of 2033. The construction of three icebreakers of project Leader provided by the plan of infrastructure development of the Northern sea route, developed up to 2035.
At the end of June 2020 began the final stage of sea trials of promising nuclear-powered icebreaker “Arktika”, the lead ship of the project 22220. The tests are carried out in the Gulf. To introduce a new icebreaker into operation is planned before the end of this year.
