Falcon 9 flew twice for 51 days and broke the record for the Shuttle

The company SpaceX successfully launched a South Korean satellite ANASIS-II with the help of the Falcon 9 rocket, and then put the first step on the offshore platform for the first time caught both sash of the head fairing in the network into two service courts. The first stage of this rocket have flown in space during the first manned launch Crew Dragon, the last 51 days ago (may 30). Thus, the Falcon 9 has broken the speed record for re-use of the rocket carrier that was installed by the Shuttle Atlantis in 1985. Stream launch took place on the YouTube channel SpaceX.

One of the main differences of rockets, the Falcon 9 and prospective Falcon Heavy rocket Starship from others is the fact that they are designed to at least partially reusable usage: reused Falcon 9 first stage, fairing and launch on this rocket ships Dragon and Starship will be fully reusable. SpaceX already managed to prove in practice the viability of the concept: the company 56 times successfully planted stage rockets, and 38 times re-used them. Looks good and statistics on absolute numbers: a step 1049 five times in a row successfully took off and landed and is likely to be used for the sixth time to launch satellites Starlink.

But while engineers need to conduct a thorough mimoletnoy diagnosis and service the first steps, which takes a lot of time, and is still far from SpaceX plans Elon musk to run the same stage twice in a day, which he said before launching the first missile modification Block 5 in 2018. However, SpaceX has been gradually reducing the intervals between runs of the same stage and during the last mission were able to surpass the result of the Shuttle.

The launch took place on a U.S. air force base at Cape Canaveral. This time the Falcon 9 launched the satellite of the Armed forces of the Republic of Korea ANASIS-II. It was developed and produced military and space division of Airbus. The satellite will be in geostationary orbit and provide communication between military facilities.

Falcon 9 first stage 1058 was launched from Baikonur on 21 July at 00:30 Moscow time. After separation of the first stage she sat on a platform Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic ocean, and the second stage continued the flight and has successfully put a satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit. With this launch, the Falcon 9 has updated the speed record for re-use in apparatus for launching into orbit, which was established in late 1985 space Shuttle Atlantis: between the launch of mission STS-51-J and STS-61-B was held for 54 days 9 hours and 14 minutes. Now the record is 51 days, 2 hours and 8 minutes.

This launch was also the first for SpaceX, during which the two ships in the landing area I caught the two folds of the head fairing. Previously, SpaceX has repeatedly used the fairings again, but until then they either fell into the water, or the network was able to put only one leaf of the two.

Reusable first stage and develop other companies, some of them chose an unusual repayment plan after launch. Rocket Lab plans after returning to the stage in the atmosphere to deploy the parachute and catch it with a helicopter, and has already tested the technology on the layout. ULA is going to do the same, but not with the whole step, but only block engines — the most expensive part of the first stage. Andn engineers chose an even more unusual way: to implement the first stage wing and the aircraft engine, so she sat alone on a conventional airfield.
