Microfluidics helped to model the embryonic development of neural tube

Biologists have created a system of microfluidic flow gradient of the substance to the culture cells, from which stem cells were able to grow regionalizado in Rostro-caudal direction in the nervous tissue. The cells of different parts of the strips of nerve tissue were expressed markers for front, back or spinal cord. On day 14 of growing regionalization of culture corresponded to an 8.5-day mouse embryo. The model is a simple tool to investigate the mechanisms of regionalization in the embryonic development. During embryonic development, cells of a homogeneous neural tube differenziata in different parts of the nervous system. The fate of each cell is influenced by signal substances in the environment which they are located. The differentiation of the neural tube in Rostro-caudal direction (head to tail) provides a gradient of Wnt-proteins: under its influence are three primary division (bubble) of the brain and spinal cord. Further development of these structures determine the local gradients of other signaling substances.
