Reconnaissance aircrafts U-2 will update the on-Board systems

The American company Lockheed Martin will modernize strategic reconnaissance aircraft U-2 Dragon Lady. As writes Flightglobal, within the program of modernization of aircraft receive new avionics, the flight management computer and the dashboard.

Modernization of aircraft will be carried out in the framework of the OMS (Open Mission Systems), involving the equipping of military equipment equipment with an open architecture. Thanks to this modernization of military equipment will be able to do any of the company, and the upgrade will be much faster.

In the US air force claimed that after the modernization of the U-2 will be the first American aircraft, a fully compliant OMS. As expected, the first advanced reconnaissance aircraft will begin to enter the army in mid-2021, and all work will be completed by the beginning of 2022-th.

Currently, the U.S. air force are 30 aircraft U-2S. The average age is 36.6 years.

Interestingly, in the middle of 2010-ies of the U.S. air force considered the ability to write off all the spy planes U-2 and replace them with strategic reconnaissance drone RQ-4 Global Hawk. Was even a development, which allowed to adapt the reconnaissance camera Dragon Lady for hanging on RQ-4.

Later, the American military said that Global Hawk would never be able to fully replace intelligence aircraft, U-2, able to simultaneously carry out several reconnaissance cameras, and abandoned the idea to write off the Dragon Lady.

Spy planes U-2 entered service with the USAF in 1957. They are able to reach the speed of 805 kilometers per hour and make flights to a distance of 10.3 million miles. Maximum altitude U-2 is about 21.3 thousand meters.

In February of current year it became knownthat Lockheed Martin has completed testing of a new multispectral camera SYERS-2C and installation of such devices on spy planes U-2. The chamber is made according to the principle of open architecture and is able to send images to the aircraft of the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor.
