The development of A-100 is the first half of 2000-ies. The new “flying radar” to replace the aging aircraft of distant radar detection and management A-50 and upgraded version of A-50U. “Prime” will be able to detect enemy aircraft of the type “fighter” at a distance of 600 km and surface targets up to 400 kilometers.
The position of air targets And 100 can determine the three coordinates, the transmitting aircraft and ground units ready data targeting. On the “Premiere”, created on the basis of military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A, installed new dual-band radar with an active phased antenna array.
A promising first flight of a “flying radar” took place in 2017 and early 2019 began preliminary flight tests of the “Premiere”. Other details about the development and testing of a “flying radar” were not disclosed.

A-50 is able to detect the target type “fighter” at a distance of 300 kilometers, and “bomber” — up to 650 kilometers. “Flying radar” can simultaneously track up to 300 surface and air targets. On detected targets, the aircraft can direct a group of 12 fighters, or up to 30 combat aircraft acting independently.
