American aircraft building concern Boeing jointly with the Austrian company Schiebel conducted demonstration tests of the unmanned helicopter Camcopter S-100 during which the device was used to deliver medical supplies and ammunition to units of the US Army. As writes Flightglobal, the tests were carried out in the framework of the tender FVL by the American military.
Tender FVL (Future Vertical Lift, promising vehicles with vertical take-off) was announced by the U.S. Army in 2011. It involves the simultaneous conduct of several competitions to create five new types of aircraft for army aviation intelligence from light and medium shock heavy transport that can compete in capacity with the transport planes.
Demonstration tests of S-100 was carried out during the drill the army of the United States to use unmanned aircraft. On the teaching of the unit have performed a total of 31 flight and transported 726 pounds of cargo — simulation of blood for transfusion and ammunition. All goods were transported on the external sling in a fully automatic mode.
Unmanned helicopter S-100 has a length of 3.1 meters and 1.2 meters wide. The diameter of its rotor is 3.4 meters. UAV maximum takeoff weight of 200 kilograms, is able to carry loads weighing up to 50 pounds. The drone can fly at speeds of 190 kilometers per hour and stay aloft for up to 6 hours. The range of the unit is 180 kilometers.
Last autumn the American company Yates Corporation announced the development of a disposable drone GD-2000 heavy-duty. The device, developed for the U.S. Marine corps, will be able to carry up to 740 pounds of cargo.
