The Chinese have commissioned their first transonic wind tunnel continuous work

Chinese aerodynamic research Institute, the organization of AVIC aircraft Corporation, has commissioned a transonic wind tunnel FL-62. As writes the Global Times, 28 may 2020 in the wind tunnel studies were in support of the project one of the promising aircraft. At the request of the Institute for aerodynamic research, studies were conducted successfully; experts have collected all the data needed to develop a new project.

The wind tunnel allow us to estimate the behavior of a particular layout developed of the aircraft or some of its elements in the air stream. Thanks to this setup, the researchers, in particular, can appreciate the aerodynamic noise, resistance, flow, adhesion of the air flow and formation of turbulent flows. All collected within the framework of such research data is used to improve the aerodynamics of the aircraft.

The construction of the wind tunnel FL-62 was conducted in China in 2012. On carrying out such works for the AVIC was first announced in 2018. FL-62 — China’s first transonic wind tunnel, designed for continuous operation. This facility has a closed circuit (air is pumped by the compressor into the annular closed chamber) and a test chamber in which to place the model up to a width of 2.4 meters and a height of 2.4 meters.

The mass of the entire setup is 6.6 tons. The diameter of the coaxial compressor — 6 meters. FL-62 can be used for long purging of model aircrafts in the air flow velocity from 0.3 to 1.6 Mach. In promising the wind tunnel in the first place it is planned to conduct research of models of new fighters. One of the new combat aircraft is planned to establish and adopt by 2035. The first test FL-62 full capacity of 80 megawatts — was held in April of this year.

2018, China is building hypersonic wind tunnel. This structure will be able to create a transient flow of gas with velocities up to Mach 25. The length of the pipe project will be 265 meters. For the creation of hypersonic air flow it will be the responsibility of the detonation chamber. It is assumed that they will create a mixture of oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen, which will then be ignited and explode. Due to the explosion will create high-speed gas flow.
