Enterprise “Atomflot”, part of state Corporation Rosatom and the far Eastern shipbuilding complex “Star” has signed the contract for the construction of the first nuclear icebreaker of project 10510 “Leader”. According to the message of the state Corporation Rosatom to complete the construction of the vessel and pass it into operation in 2027. The signing of the contract was carried out remotely by representatives of the customer and the contractor were in Murmansk and Vladivostok, respectively.
The icebreaker of project Leader developed specifically for pilotage on the Northern sea route, the shortest sea route from Europe to Asia. In particular, the new ice-breaking ships must be able to provide year-round harness carriers and tankers, including those carrying hydrocarbon fuel in South Korea, Japan and China. According to the draft, full load displacement “Leader” will amount to 71.4 thousand tons with a length of 209 meters, width is 47.7 meters and a height of 20.3 meters.
The ship will receive two nuclear reactor RITM-400 with a capacity of 120 MW on the shafts, and heat capacity of 315 MW each. Propulsion of the vessel will serve four propellers. The icebreaker will be able to reach the speed of 24 knots (44 km / h) in clean water and 12 knots in ice up to 2 meters thick. A ship designed for 40 years of service. His crew will consist of 127 people. The autonomy of the icebreaker on the stocks of provisions will be 8 months.
Earlier it was reportedthat the project Leader is planned to build three nuclear-powered icebreaker, the last of which will be transferred to Rosatom until the end of 2033. The construction of three icebreakers of project Leader provided by the plan of infrastructure development of the Northern sea route, developed up to 2035.
In November last year, then enterprise “Atomflot” has started operation of a new diesel-electric icebreaker “Ob”, the flagship vessel built in the framework of the project “Portoflot”. The icebreaker will be used in the Arctic for pilotage in the water area of port Sabetta. The commissioning of the icebreaker “Ob” completed creation of port fleet project “Portoflot”. The project was previously built tugs “PUR”, “Tambey”, “Nadym” and “Yuribey”. “Portoflot” will be involved in the gas project “Yamal LNG”.
