The French company VoltAero introduced a redesigned version of its promising hybrid aircraft Cassio, the development of which is engaged with 2018. As writes Flightglobal, the General configuration of the aircraft has changed significantly. To begin deliveries of the new aircraft, the French company plans to 2022.
The first version Cassio was presented to the public in the summer of 2019. It was designed on the basis of a light aircraft Cessna 337 Skymaster, made by two-beam scheme. Cassio initially, the project involves the installation of two electric motors with pulling propellers on the wing.
In the rear was supposed to be set pusher propeller. He had to rotate through reducer internal combustion engine, an electric motor, or these two units. In flight, the developers planned to switch the tail motor in the generator mode to charge the batteries and power the pulling motors.
Cassio for a new project the developers obviously took Italian light passenger aircraft Piaggio Aerospace Avanti Evo. The hybrid aircraft has a front horizontal stabilizer, fuselage and wing looks virtually indistinguishable from those of the Italian aircraft.
French aircraft of the new project got in the rear two small beams which have vertical fins and horizontal stabilizer. The new aircraft, according to the draft, should get one pusher propeller. It will rotate from petrol Nissan engine and three electric motors with a capacity of 60 kilowatt each.
It is expected that under the new scheme, the internal combustion engine can be turned off using a relatively quiet takeoffs and landings, only the electric motors. In flight, the part of the motors you can switch the mode of the generators. In addition, the scheme suggests the possibility of a complete shutdown of electric motors and flight only at the expense of the internal combustion engine.
Promising Cassio hybrid plane will be represented by a family of three aircraft with a capacity of 4, 6 and 10 people. These aircraft are scheduled to bring to market in the years 2022-2024. Range Cassio will be about 1,200 kilometers.
Despite the fact that VoltAero redesigned Cassio, a prototype hybrid aircraft is still created on the basis of the Cessna 337 Skymaster. This aircraft will be testing a hybrid propulsion system.
In March this year the European Union launched the programme for the development of hybrid 50-seat passenger aircraft for regional transportation, which can start performing regular flights from 2035-2040 years. The first phase of the project is to develop technologies that can be used in advanced aircraft, also the definition of the configurations of the aircraft.
