Ukrainian company “Practice” conducted sea trials of promising armored vehicle “Otaman 6×6”, which is a deep modernization of the Soviet BTR-60. A video of the test machine published by Defense Express channel Channel in YouTube. Detailed tests of the car in the video is not shown: in the video the armored vehicle rides on the sand, writes turns and overcomes the earthen shaft.
The development of armored vehicles “Otaman” is in 2016 in two versions: 6×6 and 8×8. The project includes the replacement of hulls BTR-60 and the power unit. New steel housing provides protection in accordance with the standard STANAG 4569 level II (protection from bullets of 7.62 mm and detonation of the projectile caliber 155 mm, at a distance of 80 metres). The housing is equipped with fastening for ceramic armor.
The armoured personnel carriers “Otaman” engine compartment located in front of and the crew and troop compartment behind him. The output of the troopers is done via stern ramp. The tested armored “Otaman 6×6” is equipped with combat module with two launchers of anti-tank rockets, six rocket launchers of caliber of 40 millimeters and a gun of caliber of 30 millimeters.
The total mass of the APC is 23 tons. The machine is equipped with Deutz diesel engine TCD 2015 power of 558 horsepower, capable of developing torques up to 2080 nm. “Otaman 6×6” is equipped with automatic transmission Allison 4500SP.
BTR-60 was produced in the USSR from 1960 to 1987. During this time was collected about 20 thousand cars of this type, some of which are in service still. The BTR-60 has a combat weight of 10 tons and is armed with twin machine guns of caliber 14.5 mm and 7.62 mm. The machine is capable of speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour.
